As a young woman living in New York City, I am constantly surrounded by different types of woman. Some are ambitious and hope to achieve great success, and some hope to marry rich and be taken care of for the rest of their lives. For someone like me who hopes to make it to great heights within my career, I find that having a role model is a great way to keep me on track.
When I was younger my mother and I would watch old classic movies and I became immensely fascinated with the class and eloquence that the woman had. My favorite actress was Audrey Hepburn. Many people admire Miss Hepburn for her fashion sense, but I admire her most for her grace. She exuded immense qualities of sophistication and class. One of my favorite quotes that she said was “For beautiful eyes, look for the good in others; for beautiful lips, speak only words of kindness; and for poise, walk with the knowledge that you are never alone.” In anything that I do as a young adult, I try to carry these qualities with me. I always try to portray myself as a woman who is classy, sophisticated and elegant. I want to be known for what I have to say and not what I look like. These are all things that I have learned by having a role model like Audrey Hepburn.
I have many other role models including Michelle Obama, Hilary Clinton, Maya Angelou, and of course my mother, who is the strongest woman that I know. However, it is easy to model after people based upon what they have and not what they say. Just because someone appears to have it all does not mean that they do, so when choosing a role model always remember to emulate positive actions and words, not negative ones.
